Terra Madre Day! Thursday 10 Dec 2009 will be held at Pinelands Community Hall St Stephens Rd, off Forest Drive from 12 noon to 9pm. As Thursday the 10 December draws close much review of the process is filtering through my mind. We started the organising of this celebration less than 6 weeks ago and the pressure has been great! I can only but thank Slow Food International and Slow Food Cape Town for all the support they have given our team. We have been able to galvanise a cross section of producers to participate in Terra Madre. They include Erica from Protea Hills an award winning organic farmer, small producers, chefs, cooks, handcrafters, an artist,entertainers, the organisation TEARS that tend to animals in very improvished areas and who have a prolife policy, a Fairtrade coffee retailer, stallholders that will be selling christmas gifts both edible and stocking fillers. There will be stunning handmade cards, handcrafted jewelry, handmade chocolates by Nontwenhle, preserves, liquers, christmas specialities by Chez Monet team,Miri’s potjie and rosterbrood, Alison’s delectable handmade cakes, Nazeema’s candles and gift range, Shihaam’s tea garden, Jenny’s organic vanilla powder and edible stocking fillers underscored by original photographs transformed into cards, Shiflyers tasty ginger cookies and organic rooibosch tea directly sourced from the producer,Perveen and Zaheera’s array of tasty confectionery, The Sista’s pickles and pesto’s, Ithemba our newly supported project in Mfuleni comes on board with their organically grown spinach, beads,knitting and sewing, GAPA’s grannies have been as busy as bees producing quality handcraft, Dan and Kristine’s vegetable seedlings, organic compost, bukashi and wormfarms guaranteed to get you up and running with your own veg patch. Pieter’s vast range of dry wholefoods and organic apple juice, Joseph’s award winning sprouts, almond butter, Selicia’s preservative free juices, Kims light beverages, Jeandre’s fine tuned gift boxes,Rojeanne’s selection of fairtrade coffee, Sheena’s gourmet cupcakes and Alisons homemade cakes which include a range of sugar and wheat free edibles,Joshua’s chocolate apples,Anneke’s fruit bouquets,Yushry will be selling cotton clothing,Raygana’s brownies,crunchies and oaties, Angie’s vast selection of fresh fruit,vegetables and flowers, Snugbug’s innovative freeform children’s clothing range will be on offer along with Christopher’s baked potato’s guaranteed to keep your energy levels up! Good food that will be enjoyed at the community tables set up to promote a convivial atmosphere. There will be an amphitheatre for the entertainers and local muscians are encouraged to come along and busk. Just let us know!
