Contact petrina 021 761 2373/083 281 7198 or menngos@mweb.co.za
Sheena on 021 761 5411/079 565 6794 or Perveen 021 697 2410/072 643 3442
Next market dates: Easter Saturday 3 April and Workers day 1st May. Tables are R70 and we are looking for more organic producers and products!
Going green is the theme of our Organic Food programme which directly impacts on food security and economic empowerment. We support 22 plot gardens in the Eastern Cape, a clinic and 5 women farmers. With the recent drought in the EC many of our food gardens have perished from the intense dry heat and desperate lack of water. We will be needing finanacial support to get them up and running again!

In Khayelitsha we support 3 Food agrdens that feed many families affected by the Aids virus, 80 daycare children and 5 women who are HIV positive who we hope to eventually this year become more self supporting through the sale of the organic vegetables from the food garden they are managing. They are still in the infancy phase of estblishing their food garden. We need indigenous and fruit trees, vegetable seeds and seedlings and medicinal herbs on an ongoing basis and manure. All projects are focussed this year on expanding their food gardens to increase supply to feed more people.
We need your support! Global warming is so serious and as the programme evolves we are directly affected by the changing weather patterns, the challenges of decreased water supply in extremely dry hot periods and how to prepare for this. Our gardening methodology is focussed on the implementation of permaculture principles, recycling waste, ongoing composting using any biodegradable items and chicken, cow, sheep, horse or rabbit manure , water conservation in terms of rainwater tanks, water butts or drums to catch water, seed saving and propogation of plants to grow the stock and importantly incorporating the agricultural knowledge base of the groups we serve.

We encourage as many people to get cracking in their gardens or containers to plant vegetables and herbs which will add to their long term health!
